GT350 North American Track Tour at the iconic Lime Rock Park

Early on September 30, 2015 I set off to Lime Rock Park in nearby Lakeville, CT for a chance to experience the all new Shelby GT350. I would be attending the event respresenting Stang Magazine. An incredible new track ready Mustang with the keys waiting. An iconic racetrack nestled in the rolling hills of northwestern Connecticut. A chance to drive the new Shelby GT350 around a track where Carroll Shelby himself once set a track record. What could put a damper on this incredible opportunity? RAIN. Lots and lots of rain. The forecast called for 100% chance of precipitation but thankfully there was a break just long enough that the track dried enough to get the cars out on track. The pros from the Ford Racing Performance School provided instruction on track as I got behind the wheel of the Shelby for two laps. The car I drove was white with blue stripes- a perfect tribute to the original GT350. Things got real interesting when I switched seats with the professional driver and was treated to a hot lap around the track. Unfortunately due to some standing water on the track we were unable to get any seat time in the GT350R. Maybe next time...

The new Shelby GT350 sounds like no other Mustang before it. The 5.2L flat plane crank V8 lets out an angry growl on its way up to the 8200 rpm redline. The chassis allows all of the 526 horsepower to be put to use to turn some truly impressive lap times. The Shelby GT350 is a value when you consider the level of performance you are getting with this car. Thanks to Ford Performance for putting on such a great event. For a racing enthusiast this car sells itself.
