On April 17, 2014 America's original ponycar turned 50. To make it memorable Ford did something they pulled off 5 decades earlier, they put a Mustang on top of the Empire State Building. 86 floors above the streets of New York City sat a bright yellow 2015 Ford Mustang GT convertible right there on the observation deck. As a Mustang enthusiast I could not pass up the opportunity to check it out.
The morning started by attending the Press Preview at the New York International Auto Show where I had the first opportunity to see the all new 2015 Mustang in person. After a short walk through Manhattan and a couple hour wait in line at the Empire State Building I finally boarded the elevator to the Observation Deck. The Mustang took a similar journey on a freight elevator, arriving in pieces before being reassembled. The crowd on the Observation Deck was a mix of diehard Mustang enthusiasts trying to get a glimpse of the latest ponycar and surprised NYC tourists trying to figure out why they were looking at a car far above the city streets. After some patience and maybe a little bit of crowd blocking I got to see the Mustang with the city skyline in the background. The pictures are proof I made it and I'll be there if Ford decides to do repeat this stunt on the 100th birthday.
